Handicapped Community Fellowship

Reaching the handicapped persons in Kenya with the love of God.

ABOUT HCF

Disability
Disability in Kenya is presented in many forms of special needs most of which start during the childhood stage; Physical disabilities e.g. visual and hearing impairment, multiple difficulties both Orthopaedic and Neurological, children with specific learning difficulties, emotional and behavioral problems etc.

.

Overcoming limitations
These become limitations in daily living especially when the environment is not friendly to these conditions. Many people living with these disabling conditions have suffered rejection and discrimination not necessarily from the impairment but from the outside response. Disabled children and their parents or guardians have been stigmatized by the community due to lack of clear information on disability. Disabled children experience multiple problems starting from malnutrition, lack of necessary equipments, inaccessible environments e.g. buildings without ramps for wheel chair users, rejection from people etc. H.C.F being a Christian ministry has committed itself to respond to this need using Godly responses as stated in the Bible. We believe that, love is not just “a good idea” but a “command” to be obeyed regardless of the circumstances surrounding any situation. HCF therefore exists to respond to the needs of the disabled who have been rejected by their families or are being mistreated, or are in need of any specialized attention. This covers all areas of life i.e. spirit, soul and body.

Founder
Mrs. Elisabeth Resner (HCF founder) got the burden for the needy many years ago but held back till 1997. Due to the size of the vision, she had to share it with others. Some one put it like this, “if you can fulfill your vision alone, then it must be very small.” It was not so with this vision thus many people had to be involved. A survey was done and effective strategies were put into place. In November 1997 the ministry started operating under Kenya Youth For Christ till January 2006 when the ministry was registered by the Kenyan government as a church organization under the society act.

Official launch.
H.C.F was officially launched on 27th February 1999 as a ministry under Kenya Youth For
Christ (KYFC) by the KYFC director MR. Cyprian Yobera, Pastor Ambrose Nyangao
(Parklands Baptist Church) and many other guests.
